July 16 - Asturias, Cangas di Onis, Covadonga

Another crap nights sleep

Click in eventually around 8.50 or something then roll to breakfast about three hundred metres away

Five euro gets you a bland croissant, an espresso and chemical orange juice. All a bit rubbish really.

Ride out on a planned route to the south towards the Picos di Europa.

Im feeling strong after the rest day, but the route is confusing as we cross over and retrace our steps. So after rolling out by myself, the rest come past while I wait and I dont bother to get back on. Wet roads mean cowshit spray from the back tyre.  Umm...no.

Eventually I get to the first climb and it is a nice quiet back road with some consistent 10 and 11 % pitches.
The weather looks to be improving and I dont put the rainjacket on for the descents, somewhere down this road I hit 93kmh, I wasnt looking at the speedo.

As we emerge from this loop we then head towards Lagos diCovadonga in the middle on the Picos.
Its a descent climb and I learn later its regarded as Hors Categorie, which is comforting because climbing 15% for a few minutes isnt fun

I have seen the other Poseurs, but after following the Garmin route to the end, Im on my own. No one arrives at the beautiful scene of Covadonga.
After a quite nice mushroom omelette and a beer, OGF arrives to say they are at another restaurant.
No memo, no communication, starting to give me the shits.
I've eaten lunch, they sit down so I can enjoy watching them eat. No thanks. Give me the house keys I'm off. Fucksake.
A complete blast going over the roads I struggled hard to climb and with the warmer weather the roads are drier so Im able to enjoy the descent alot more (fast) pass a couple of the tourist buses as I do so.
Get onto the main road back to Cangas and my legs feel great.
Make it back to the digs, showered, washed clothes, hung out and get a kip.
Woken up by BB who has falled off his bike in an innocuous incident apparently, bit of bark off.
Out to an indifferent dinner of pork ribs, my preferred rice dish needs to be pre-ordered a day before.
The others tucks into a truly appalling chips and gravy mess that stinks - I mean bad, and this is after a day of riding through grazing country where horses, cows, goats and sheep wander over the roads.
Cheap crap red wine not above cardboard goon, commercial chips and sauces, its pretty dire. Asturias is not a culinary centre at all. When a green salad becomes the best option on the menu its almost as bad a english food.
Stinks bad

I didnt eat the fries, the pork was good

This looks good
Yep
