So this is Monday 22st and we're now in Amed.
Thursday was lazy. What did you expect? Just late to wake, coffee on the room portico chairs and then wait another hour for Sandy to rouse. I went to the restaurant for nasi goreng and a coffee. Then another coffee. And more catching up on twitter for the morning papers.
We've booked a hot stone massage for 11.00am and didnt quite know what to expect. Well frankly it was brilliant. All this extreme relaxing activity and I need some respite. Very strong very small balinese women worked out all the kinks from my back and legs, and Sandy looked like she was on a seratonin high. Back to the room and we wandered down the strip to the beach area and sat in Waring Apple for lunch and beers. Cumi-cumi (squid) curry for me, Nasi Campur for her nibs. $7. and it was enak. Played cards, wandered back bought a sarong. Got back just before the skies opened up.
This time the afternoon rain only lasted a few hours and we wandered exactly 100m up the street to a quiet warung named Barakuda.
Normally we don't go for the less populated places, despite its rustic exterior the kitchen was clean and the fish was fresh. So we stayed. Putuh chatted and we hired him for our drive up Amed on Saturday. $50 for 85km and a tour. Maybe we could have haggled more... I would rather feel better about the local economy.
There should be a sign attached to every free wifi sign. "Maybe. Maybe not"
The 3G on the phone is problematic also, mostly showing H and E on my phone with a couple of bars. Simply cant get the laptop to connect anywhere and maybe its my security settings. Not going to play with Kaspersky. Not. Must resist.
We've started watching House of Cards season one. Pretty good so far yet the characters are disjointed and maybe a little simplistic. Wait and see.
Friday started much the same, though managed breakfast with Sandy. Another hot stone massage and pizza for lunch at JB's down the strip. Then dinner at Warung Ayu.
We are building a really good rhythm now.
Saturday breakfast and pack up. Into the car and off. The entire room service/massage/minibar bill for four days was 1.9million rp. $190 for food, booze and massages. Pre-paying the room rate helps.
Putuh and his cousin Gede are driving us to Amed. We go through the clogged main twisty street of Singarajah (The Lion King) and we are very carefully making our way east. Gede is a very careful driver which we both appreciate. Given how very nearly car sick Sandy was on the road through Bedugul the quieter less twisty roads are a relief. Still I am glad I am not driving.
Took a few photos as we went.
Stopped at a ragged mart for lunch. I wouldn't normally have done so but Putuh is the chef and he recommended it. Nasi goreng with extra fresh sambal, mee goreng for the Boss. Gede and Putuh had nasi campur and then an extra serve of mackeral coated in sambal and flash deep fried in the wok. Fish was delicious.
Total bill was 57,000rp ! What some mistake, we all had drinks? So I pay 100k Then Putuh says its his sister's-in-law place. Been ages since I encountered the Bali family networking strategy.
On we go and google maps delivers up to Kembali Beach Bungalows Amed. A quick farewell and we're deposited at our lodgings for the next week.
And we are here.
It is Monday and Glory have a four - one win and the world turns around again and we spent a very quiet Saturday night wandering west to Bliss Cafe for BBQ snapper.
Sunday finds us breakfasting swimming and wandering east for about a kilometre. Then a quiet delicious meal at Warung Enak.
Monday and the neighbours greet the new week with a massive round of "entertainment" or rooting.
I've nick-named the young Canadian woman - "Lassie" she almost gets a howl going. The more mature American with her younger Indian chap - well I don't know...when I heard them going for it at 7.00am I thought the kitchen had started chopping food, but there was a rapidimento bit of slap slap slappery going on with assorted yank moans. The Indian chap seemed impressed with his own performance. Shades of "Go Russell. Go Russell"
No big plans for today. What else is new?
